Privacy Policy — Hotkeys for Jira

Hotkeys for Jira (“the Extension”) is a Chrome extension published by Softwired Digital Pty Ltd. It adds a keyboard action palette on Jira Cloud and Confluence Cloud. This policy describes what the Extension does with data. It does not apply to Atlassian’s own products. Jira, Confluence and Atlassian are trademarks of Atlassian Pty Ltd. The Extension is unofficial and is not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by Atlassian.

1. The short version

The Extension runs in your browser on Atlassian Cloud pages you are already signed into. Softwired does not run a backend for it, does not create an account for you, does not sell data, and does not send extension analytics to ourselves. When you invoke a command, the request goes from your browser to Atlassian using your existing session.

2. What the Extension stores

Two preferences are saved in localStorage on the Atlassian site you are using:

Your activation shortcut (default Cmd/Ctrl+K)
Project-picker sort order (A–Z or by type)
These values never leave that site’s origin
Clearing site data for *.atlassian.net removes them

On-page activity can include issue keys, summaries, comments, labels, assignees, project and space names — only as needed to run the command you invoked. Those requests stay between your browser and Atlassian. Softwired does not receive a copy.

The Extension does not write issue data into Chrome storage, cookies, or any Softwired system.

3. What the Extension does not store

No Softwired account, email address or credentials
No first-party servers or databases of our own
No issue titles, comments or fields copied to Softwired
No analytics, telemetry, behavioural tracking or cookies of our own
No payment information — the Chrome Web Store handles billing if any

The Extension reads page context (for example an issue key in the URL, or the card you have focused) and calls Atlassian’s own APIs as the signed-in user. It copies none of that into Softwired-owned storage.

4. Where the Extension runs

Content scripts load on https://*.atlassian.net/* so the palette can work on Jira and Confluence Cloud. A small frame bridge also loads on Atlassian Forge iframe hosts and on tollgatehq.com so the activation chord still works when focus is inside a Forge app. The bridge only forwards the activation key; it does not read issue data from those frames.

5. Permissions and where data goes

The Extension does not request Chrome permissions or host_permissions. It uses the page origin you are already on. It does not execute remote code.

Preferences stay in localStorage on that Atlassian site
Issue and project data leave the browser only as Atlassian API calls you trigger
Softwired operates no servers for this Extension and receives no copy
Atlassian’s own privacy policy applies to data handled by Jira and Confluence: https://www.atlassian.com/legal/privacy-policy

6. Retention and deletion

Uninstall the Extension. Chrome then removes the Extension. localStorage on Atlassian sites is unaffected until you clear site data.
Clear site data for *.atlassian.net in the browser. That removes the activation shortcut and project-sort preference.
Jira data stays in Jira. Uninstalling does not change issues, comments or projects in your Atlassian site.

7. Sharing

We never sell, share or transfer user data to third parties. Data that leaves the browser goes only to Atlassian, as part of the API calls you trigger. Atlassian’s own privacy policy then applies. We would disclose data only where the law compels it.

8. Security

No Chrome permissions or host_permissions — the Extension uses the page you are already on
All logic ships in the extension zip. There is no remote code
API calls use your existing Atlassian session cookie, as the signed-in user
Softwired has no server that could receive or store that traffic

9. Your rights

If you are in the EEA or the UK, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection under GDPR. If you are a California resident, we do not sell personal information and will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights. Because Softwired stores no personal data for this Extension, most requests resolve by uninstalling or clearing site data for *.atlassian.net. For anything else, email help@softwired.com.au.

10. Children

The Extension is not directed to anyone under 16 and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

11. Your responsibilities

Get the permissions your organisation requires before installing a Chrome extension
Tell your users the Extension is in use, if your policies require it
Do not use the Extension in a way that violates your organisation’s Jira or data policies

12. Changes

We may update this policy to reflect changes in the Extension or the law. The “last updated” date above changes with it; material changes are noted on the Chrome Web Store listing.
